Decarbonisation: Time to start adapting
Climate adaptation - the new priority in the boardroom and in government
Despite over thirty years of global policy actions and investment, the world is not decarbonising as planned based on the Paris Agreement.
Businesses must incorporate climate adaptation alongside ongoing efforts to reduce climate impact, while governments need to put policies in place that incentivise successful adaptation to climate change.
Adaptation has not generated the focus and publicity of other climate initiatives and it is imperative that this becomes a corporate priority.
Strategic planning and operational risk should assess where businesses are exposed to the impacts of climate change and identify potential adaptation plans. Adaptation manifest as a business-as-usual process and integrated into daily businesses decision making is essential to a coherent business strategy.
