Market-based flexibility procurement for Nordic DSOs
Nordic distribution system operators (DSOs) and regulators are exploring how market-based procurement of flexibility services can be used in the distribution network. For this, Nordic Energy Research commissioned AFRY to write a report External link., which looks at the potential for Nordic DSOs to use distributed flexibility services, describes existing flexibility markets and pilot studies, and assesses design options for markets. The report summarises insights from interviews with DSOs, other stakeholders in the Nordic countries and a survey of major Nordic DSOs.
In this webinar, Stian Blackstad Hackett, Senior Consultant from AFRY's Oslo office, presents the main results of the study, which explores the following issues:
- the value of flexibility in the Nordic countries;
- product design for long-term reliability and short-term activation;
- DSO-TSO coordination; and
- the merits of few or many marketplaces.
